He was subsequently assigned to the North Carolina business court for complex But business cases. Prior to his appointments to the bench he was a shareholder with the all three deacons wall firm. One of the nations leading work place law firms where he spent 26 years as a counselor and a litigator for companies of different sizes. Judge McGuire obtained his Bachelor of Science from Cornell University University and as Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, I respectfully ask the members of this body to confirm the appointment of Gregory McGuire as a special superior court Judge. Thank you Mr. Speaker. >> What purpose does the gentleman from Wake, Representative Martin rise? >> To debate the resolution The gentleman has the floor to debate the resolution. >> Thank you very much Mr Speaker members I was pleased in day one to meet and consider the nomination of three of the judges that are before us today including Mr Maguire. After reading their backgrounds and hearing from them all extremely well qualified and was pleased to support their nomination in day one and certainly will be doing the same here on the floor. I commend the governor for sending forth a good slate of nominees I do think if I'll delve deep into the politics I might find several disagreements. But that's not the standards I think, by which we judge our nominations. We look at their qualifications patience and these gentlemen certainly deserve our support. I'm most pleased though that we at North Carolina are ignoring the advice of those perhaps in DC who would say that in election year where they're appointing member of the executive branch is up for reelection that legislator Branch/g should not consider an important judicial nomination. We're doing our Our job here and proceeding with the people's business. Some would argue that we should let the people have their say in the gubernatorial election coming up. Well, the people had their say, elected Governor Croy, he did his job, it's time for us in the legislative branch to do our job. >> For what purpose does the gentleman from Mecklenburg Rep Jude arise? >. He has also been president of the Daughtridge Gas and Oil Company, a company his grandfather founded in 1929 as well as whole host of other private sector jobs. Before any of this however, Secretary Doltrige/g was a proud Eagle Scout and Moorhead/g scholar at Chapel Hill where he earned both his Bachelor of Science and his MBA. Mr. Vizzer/g has spent 13 years practicing civil litigation and criminal law before joining the bench. He has practiced law for over 34 years in a variety of areas including, complex civil litigation, intellectual property matters and corporate litigation. Before practicing law Mr Robinson was undergraduate student at Davidson college where he got a bachelors of Arts degree in economics. He went on to study law at the university of North Carolina in Chapel Hill where he graduated with high honors. Mr Robinson has a wife and four children and is active member of his community Colleagues and peers of Mr. Robinson have described him as having a strong work ethic. He established the Charlotte Mecklenburg police department Volunteer homicide cold case unit and pioneered initiatives that have become models for other law enforcement agencies. Since his retirement in 2004, he has served as president of a private investigative and security consulting firm. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill as well as the FBI National Academy. He currently resides in Iredell county with his wife Tricia and their daughter. I rise today to ask you to support this nomination of Mr. Schumeyer. He got. You've heard of his record in law enforcement. I will give you a little personal perspective. My husband who just retired as the Aviation Director for Operations at Charlotte Douglas airport. He worked very closely with Mr. Schumeyer and said all that he could say about him as he is a great guy but he's a man of The man of high integrity, and I'll tell you that I do believe he will be fair but he will be tough in his role and I ask for your support. >> For what purpose does the gentleman from Guildford Representative Faircloth rise? >> To speak to the resolution. >> The gentleman has the floor to debate the resolution. >> Thank you Mr speaker. This is an important decision we make. We make some changes in the structure of the SBI leadership a couple of years ago and this an appointment which is a eight year appointment and requires someone who can not only hold an office in state government but can bring to that office the experience necessarily to interact with other government employees with people who are charged with enforcing their laws all the way across the state. Mr Shumeyer is very well qualified, he comes from local government law enforcement and i think that's a plus. He is well respected in the field by the FBI agents that know him. and I wanna share with you today two things that sadden me, first of all Representative Patrick good news about an anniversary facing a professional workforce here as many of you know my colleague my seat mate for the last six years is not coming back. And that saddens me.
