Thank you very much Mr Speaker, members over the last week and today there are two important anniversaries related to our armed forces, both of which have significance for North Carolina, one of them was last week, and I hope you'll forgive me for not commemorating it last week I was away, but last week was on July was the anniversary of the signing by President Harry Cumman[sp?] of executive order 9981 which desegregated our millitaries enforces. The significance for North Carolina is clear but two points that I want to make on it, one, after the signing of that order, really he only places in North Carolina that were desegregated were Fortbrug[sp?], Cape De Journ[sp?] and other military installations as opposed to the segregation that rained in the rest of the state. Interestingly enough, that the signing of that executive order ended the history of a satellite of Cape De Journ[sp?] Mumford[sp?] point where African-American Marines trained and I had the honor of being the seatmate of the daughter of a matripoint[sp?] marine, I'm very proud of that.
